Into Motherhood + YOU
The Project
Through interviews, photographs, and poetry we intend to use our art to replace the isolation of mothering with connection. We will peel back the facades and address all the contradictions tucked inside our hearts and homes.
“To pull back the curtains and give an intimate window into the true inner workings of a home.
Into the domestic. Into the motherhood.
Into the real and relatable and everyday drama and romanticism of the kitchen table, the floor mat, the bedroom, the yard.”
Defining Motherhood
We believe motherhood has no boundaries- we are emphatic about this one. If you are caring for a living thing- dog, cat, plant, baby- you’re one. Aunts who mother, fathers who mother, grandparents who mother, gardeners and social workers and teachers who mother. Foster-mothers and step-mothers, adoptive mothers, and birth mothers. Those who lost their baby, and those who long for one. Those who find mothering hard, and those who find it easy. If you get up everyday with a mission to care for something else, this project is about you and for you.
Your story
We are looking for more mothers to include in our Into Motherhood series. Every mother has a story to tell, and we want to hear yours. Please go to this link and fill out the form if you are interested. For now, you need to be in the Seattle area for Chelsea to photograph you.
*We have big plans for uncovering and sharing stories of motherhood, so don’t you worry. Travel is in the future!
**If you have been photographed by Chelsea in the past 18 months and want to share more, please get in touch as well. We would love it!
Get Involved
Mothers who join the project will be interviewed, photographed, and have a poem written inspired by their story and photos. Their feature will be shared online and through Chelsea’s newsletter.
