Newborn Session: Preparing and Loving Your House for Photos | Seattle Newborn Photographer

Getting Your Home Ready for a Newborn Session

First things first- your house does not need to perfect to have your family photos at home. You do not need pristine white walls, a large space, or an incredibly styled space. Your house is already perfect because it is your home. I mean that! However, there are a couple of things you can do just to put yourself at ease and ensure that your images look incredible!

Focus on One or Two Rooms

I usually stay in one or two areas of your home for family sessions. For newborn sessions the top three I choose from normally are the living room, master bedroom, or baby’s room. I have done entire family sessions just moving around one bedroom. To minimize the work you have to do or your apprehension that your entire house isn’t how you would ideally love it, try and keep this in mind.

Declutter

When I say declutter, I literally mean put aside any chargers, cords, dishes or items that you can’t unsee from your photos. You do not need to go all Marie Kondo on your space. I mean, I hope that your home sparks joy for you, but please don’t spend a lot of time on this step. Glance around the room and look for anything that might annoy you in a photo and shove it away. You have a newborn! You already have enough on your plate.

Don’t Go Overboard

I have already made it clear that I don’t want new parents going crazy with cleaning or worry before I come over, but there is another reason why I don’t want you to completely transform your home. What makes in home sessions so special is that it is where you live your life. I suggest that you don’t remove family pictures, heirlooms, blankets, or special toys/books. If something is distracting, I can shuffle it while taking photos. Keep the essence of you present in your home for your photos.
